SV - HANCHE, COUDE, DOS et amp; SCHÉMA ADN
All GSD owners in the UK can submit Hip, Elbow and back x-rays and DNA samples to the German SV (German Shepherd Dog World Governing body) for results to be recorded in their global database. These results have international recognition.
With recent discussion around the WUSV (World Union of GSD Clubs) Harmonisation programme for the future, we are getting increased interest and enquiries regarding the SV HD/ED/LUW/DNA Scheme in the UK. As the newly appointed registrar for this scheme, i have put some information together, which hopefully explains how it works and answers some of the questions people have.
This scheme is overseen in the UK by the WUSV Working Group - GB (BAGSD & GSDL) and administered on their behalf by myself as the registrar.

Q. What is the SV scheme
The scheme is the SV equivalent of the BVA/KC hip and elbow scheme. It offers assessment of hips, elbows, LUW, OCD and DNA for identification purposes.
Q. Is the scheme available in the UK
Yes absolutely, there are an increasing number of vets now extremely competent in submitting x-ray plates and DNA to the SV for assessment. The list is available to anyone. However, any vet willing to do so for the first time, can do so. All we ask is that they have a quick chat with the WUSV Working Group - GB consultant vet, Mike Guilliard, in advance of the appointment, so that they are fully aware of requirements in terms of positioning of x-rays and paperwork and if submitting digital x-rays that they register with the scheme, an easy process for them.

Q. What is the cost to do this in the UK
The cost of taking the x-rays and DNA sample are a matter for you and your selected vet. However the SV fees that are paid direct from the WUSV Working Group - GB are as follows. We have recently reviewed these in an effort to maintain the low costs where possible. Th revised costs valid from 1st August 2017.
HD - £60
ED - £60
OCD - £35
HD with LUW together - £85
LUW separately (if HD already evaluated) - £35
DNA - £85
Q. What is LUW and OCD
LUW relates to Lumbar-Sacral Transitional Vertebrae. In absolute laymans terms it is not entirely dissimilar to what we know as Caudia Equine Syndrome
OCD is Osteochondrose - orthopaedic disease of the hip joint
These x-rays are on a voluntary basis currently but may at some point in the future become mandatory.

GUIDE ÉTAPE PAR ÉTAPE
1 - Assurez-vous d'avoir un pedigree Kennel Club* de 5 générations pour votre Berger Allemand - Assurez-vous d'être correctement propriétaire du pedigree. (Doit être un pedigree officiel, pas fait maison).
* Notez qu'un pedigree KC est requis pour les chiens nés au Royaume-Uni, pour les chiens nés dans d'autres pays, le pedigree doit provenir de l'autorité d'enregistrement du pays de naissance.
2 - Assurez-vous d'être membre de BAGSD/GSDL/SV
3 - Contactez le registraire à temps pour commander les documents SV et organiser le paiement au groupe de travail WUSV-GB, les documents seront envoyés une fois le paiement confirmé.
4 - Une fois les documents reçus, prenez rendez-vous avec le vétérinaire approprié.
5 - En cas de nouveau processus de vétérinaire, assurez-vous qu'ils contactent Mike Guiliard pour obtenir des conseils avant le rendez-vous - CECI EST TRÈS IMPORTANT.
6 - Assurez-vous d'avoir les documents originaux du chien, ainsi qu'une copie du pedigree officiel original, pour consulter le vétérinaire avec le chien pour des radiographies.
7 - Prenez des radiographies et remplissez tous les documents TRÈS soigneusement, assurez-vous que les formulaires sont signés et tamponnés par le vétérinaire et signés par le propriétaire.
8 - Assurez-vous que l'échantillon d'ADN UNIQUEMENT accompagné du formulaire SV et d'une copie du pedigree sont envoyés à HeidelbergMÊME JOUR. NE PAS
ENVOYER DES RAYONS X
9 - S'assurer que les radiographies et les formulaires SV qui les accompagnent, ainsi que le pedigree original de 5 générations, sont correctement emballés et envoyés immédiatement au registraire (Heather Macdonald).
9.1. Si les radiographies sont soumises numériquement par votre vétérinaire, demandez-lui de vous confirmer la date de soumission et le numéro de référence de soumission. Vous devez quand même envoyer les formulaires d'accompagnement SV au registraire (Heather Macdonald)
10 - Le registraire s'assurera que les documents sont correctement remplis et tamponneront le pedigree avant de les soumettre à SV pour notation.
11 - Attendre les résultats, ce qui peut prendre quelques semaines. Notre objectif est d'obtenir des résultats dans les 4 semaines suivant la soumission des formulaires à SV. Toute question ou requête concernant les résultats doit être adressée à la registraire (Heather Macdonald).
